Production for Denis Villeneuve’s film Dune has officially started filming.

The official synopsis is as follows :

A mythic and emotionally charged hero’s journey, “Dune” tells the story of Paul Atreides. A brilliant and gifted young man born into a great destiny beyond his understanding, who must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the future of his family and his people. As malevolent forces explode into conflict over the planet’s exclusive supply of the most precious resource in existence—a commodity capable of unlocking humanity’s greatest potential—only those who can conquer their fear will survive.

The film is based on the Frank Herbert novel of the same name. With Timothée Chalamet in the lead role of Paul Atreides. Villeneuve has enlisted a star-studded cast. Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Zendaya, David Dastmalchian, Stephen Henderson, Charlotte Rampling, Jason Momoa have all signed on, with Chang Chen in talks to join the cast.

The press release also reveals that Hans Zimmer will be composing the score. Denis Villeneuve is continuing to work with brilliant cinematographers by bringing in Greig Fraser (Rogue OneVice) to shoot this movie. While Jacqueline West (The Revenant) is designing the costumes. Furthermore, Bob Morgan and Villeneuve are once again working with editor Joe Walker from Arrival.

Filming is taking place in Budapest, Hungary, and Jordan with a November 20, 2020 release date.
