E3 was a huge success this year, with hype building up for properties owned by Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo! This year we got to see some cool new games that are sure to keep us entertained and glued to our screens for hours at a time. For a three day event, we needed three different blogs to recap and retell everything that was unleashed at the world’s biggest gaming convention and showcase!
Let’s take a look at some highlights from the Microsoft Xbox keynote! This year Microsoft knocked our socks off and pulled the rug right under from where we’re standing! The unveiled a TON of cool trailers and teasers for upcoming games, the acquiring of 5 new creative teams for its gaming development studios and even a question for themselves: “Where can we take gaming next?”
1. Halo Infinite
FINALLY!! After 3 years, we are finally given word on a new Halo game. Microsoft dropped a brief 2 minute trailer for Halo Infinite, that left A LOT to the imagination. Although Halo Infinite is still in its development stages, with the help of 343 Industries and by the looks of the stunning graphics from the trailer, I’d say they are doing a stellar job so far! Xbox chief Phil Spencer even said himself, “This will be our biggest Halo adventure yet!” And we are taking his word for it! There are space marine fighting aliens! The only down part of it, is that we’ll have to wait until 2019 (earliest) to play it. The good news is it will be available for PC as well as Xbox One.
2. Gears of War
Microsoft dropped some heat NO ONE in the gaming community was ready for! THREE new Gears of War games for every type of gamer! Gears POP is a cute little mobile game for those who game on the go, where the characters from Gears of War are replaced by Funko POP figures. For those why are really into PCs, strategy and planning, Microsoft got you covered with Gears Tactics. It is described as a turn-based strategy game, similar to the XCOM series. And finally Gears of War 5 got a new trailer, with amazing visuals, cinematics, and action that pleased fans since 2006! You can play all of these great games in 2019!
3. Fallout 76
Fallout got a lot of attention this weekend, with the announcement that it will be playable on the Nintendo Switch, as well as word on a new game! Fallout 76 isn’t just any other Fallout game, it is the first game to take place ENTIRELY online, and the people you meet are actually other players from AROUND THE WORLD! You can play with them or against them in your West Virginia endeavours. Also, there is a ‘Power Armour Edition’ where players can get a Power Armour Helmet, to either wear or display in your living room, and it lights up EVERYTHING! Fallout 76 is set to release this November!
4. Kingdom Hearts 3
No this isn’t photoshop. That is Olaf standing next to Sora, Donald and Goofy. Love it or hate it, Frozen is finally getting in on the Kingdom Hearts action! Fans went wild after seeing the trailer for the third instalment of the Disney and Square Enix collaboration. In this outing, we’ll get to see new areas inspired by Disney properties Frozen, Tangled, and Toy Story. Available for Xbox One and Playstation 4 in January 2019!
After 30 years, a tv special, and a brief ‘blink and you’ll miss it’ cameo in Ready Player One, 2019 will be the return of Battletoads to the gaming scene. We know absolutely NOTHING about this new game except it will be featuring body morphing genre mash-ups, 3 player couch co-op, and 4 drawn 2.5D graphics!
6. A Brand New Xbox
There was an idea -… wait, wrong mission statement. But, chief Phil Spencer kind of gave us that Nick Fury vibe when he teased the idea of a new Xbox console. His words, and I quote, “In this significant moment, we are constantly challenging ourselves: where can we take gaming next? The same team that delivered unprecedented performance with Xbox One X is deep into architecting the next Xbox consoles, where we will once again deliver on our commitment to set the benchmark for console gaming.” Doesn’t that give you chills down your spines? We here at Nerdy Scoop are knees weak!
